Fashion Friday: Style Icons: Courtney Reed

In the past two years, I've developed a growing interest in Broadway and musical theatre. So naturally, I've discovered new people to become a fan of as well as new people to feature here on my blog. Courtney Reed is one of those people. While I've never actually seen her in a musical or Broadway show, I have seen her perform in a Broadway Princess Party, which is basically a cabaret show/concert full of princess songs. You may remember the show/her from my blog post all about it from nearly a year ago!

Courtney and me last August after the Broadway Princess Party in Schaumburg, IL

Reed is best known as Broadway's original Princess Jasmine from Aladdin: The Musical, and she has honestly become one of my favorite people ever. Not only do I feel like we are quite similar (we love pink, rose gold, Princess Jasmine of course, lipstick, and fashion), but she's an overall wonderful person. She's super talented on and off-stage. She's a girl boss and began her own jewelry/apparel company called Gagged Chokers and is just killing the game at living out her dreams.

So in honor of her birthday on August 10 (I'm starting the celebration early), I'm featuring Courtney as one of my style icons. But I'm doing something a little different than I have with others I've featured as a style icon on here. Not only am I featuring some of my favorite outfits she's worn, but I'm also featuring a few of her Gagged products she's created/designed.

I love jumpsuits, and this purple one is just so cute and fun! The wide legs add some flair, and the ruffles on the straps are adorable. The purple color is great for spring and summer, as is the big sunhat. The pointed toe heels kick the outfit up a notch but still keep the outfit pretty casual.

This is what I like to call business chic, because the blazer is giving me those business wear vibes but overall the outfit is so stylish with the neutral color scheme, patterned pants, and the trendy hat. Like, is Courtney going to or coming from the office, or is she at a fun event? It could be either, and I love that.

Also, I'm not going to lie: I definitely bought a hat just like this one because I saw Courtney wearing one. And I really like how the hat just adds something different to this outfit. I don't know what it is, but I like it. The flowers on her pants are so dainty and add a little pop of color but stick to the neutral color scheme.

Based on the third photo in the Instagram post, it looks like this outfit is actually a matching set and not a jumpsuit, but I like it nonetheless. Monochrome can be hard to do sometimes, and Courtney nails it here. I'm not entirely sure what color the set is, but it looks great on her. I like how the set looks formal and structured yet doesn't appear rigid or boring and still looks fashionable. The high-waisted pants definitely help with that. And honestly, I myself wish all pants were high-waisted.

Clearly this outfit screams '90s, but it's for a good reason. Not only is '90s style back, but this was her outfit for a '90s themed event. First, I have to point out the Aladdin Cave of Wonders graphic tee! I love it. I mean, not only is it an awesome shirt, but Courtney is Broadway's original Princess Jasmine, so she obviously has to own some great Aladdin clothes.

Not wearing the distressed overalls up all the way allows her to show off a bit of the Cave of Wonders graphic tee, which is a smart idea, and the high ponytail with the scrunchie and the choker just tie the whole look together.

Honestly when I went back through her Instagram to choose outfits to feature, I was like 'Are we sure Courtney isn't a goddess or something?' Because I mean, look at this picture! She is GLOWING.

So everything about this dress is just super cute and great for the summertime. The deep V combined with the wrap style of the dress and the maxi length balance well together. The tropical floral print is fun and perfectly seasonal. Plus, the wrap style of the dress lets her show off her shoes a bit, which have some fun straps happening.

Courtney's on the right in this picture, as her sister, Tiffany, is on the left, but both of their swimsuits are amazing here. I mean, they're matching mermaid swimsuits! How adorable is that! I personally like Tiffany's better because you know my favorite color is pink, but Courtney's green and purple one is great as well. I've actually always been surprised Courtney didn't choose the pink one, because magenta is her favorite color.

Anyway, A+ swimsuits. I love the shell-shaped top and the high-waisted bottoms with the mermaid scale design. Feel free to click through the entire Instagram post to see all of the Reed ladies rock some fabulous mermaid swimsuits!

The quick version of how Courtney began Gagged Chokers: chokers came back in style a few years ago, she decided to start making her own, and then her friends told her she should start selling them. Three years later, and Gagged has had several great collections!

This choker, named "Swedish Nightingale", is part of Gagged's latest collection, The Greatest Show-woman. Courtney loves The Greatest Showman, so it's no surprise she decided to create a choker collection inspired by its characters and the movie. I love the dainty, delicate design of this one, and the white color makes it easy to pair with lots of different things. I own this one and love it. It adds a nice girly touch to outfits.

The rose gold version of this necklace is the other Gagged jewelry item I own. I absolutely love it and wear it all the time. It's a very simple necklace, just a crown on a chain. Because this necklace is so simple, it's easy to wear with all kinds of outfits and even on an everyday basis. It adds some shine and princess vibes to everything.

I'd love a good black lace choker, but I unfortunately didn't know about Gagged when this choker was on sale. The black lace is so pretty and simple and could go with so many different outfits. The traditional femininity of the lace combined with the darkness of the black is a fun pairing.

(Obviously, this isn't Courtney in the picture. This is LJ Wright, a Broadway dresser who actually worked on Aladdin when Courtney was still in it. She's a member of the OG Gagged girl gang who helped Courtney start this fantastic company!)

Here's another choker I wish I could have owned! If you know me, you know I love pink. I also love lace. And you probably know by now that I love me a good lace choker. So how could I not want this? It would be such a wonderful pop of color!

And I am just gagged over the name of this one! In Courtney's Instagram bio, it says she's a love of matcha and a bold lip, so this references that. And of course it's hot pink, because Courtney loves hot pink like me!
