What I'm Listening To: Summer 2019

It's been nearly two years since I've done one of these posts. I stopped doing them because I just ended up putting 99% of the music I'd been listening to in my monthly favorites posts, so doing one of these would seem repetitive. But this summer there have been quite a few songs that I've been listening to a lot that haven't been featured in any of my monthly favorites posts, so I thought now would be a good time to do another music post.

My playlist for this summer is probably the most diverse my go-to playlist has ever been, including music from three different movie soundtracks, covers, Broadway show tunes, and pop music. So I've definitely been influenced by the movies and entertainment news from this summer. I've embedded some of the music from YouTube below since some of these songs aren't on Spotify or any streaming services, but my full playlist can be found at the end of this post.

Rocketman (Music From the Motion Picture)

I've basically been listening to the Rocketman soundtrack on repeat since it was released last May, because Taron Egerton's voice is the most beautiful sound I have ever heard, and I cannot get enough of it. Like honestly, I didn't really listen to Elton John songs before Rocketman (other than Taron's cover of "I'm Still Standing" from Sing of course), but this movie and soundtrack has blessed the world with an entire album of Taron's singing, so there was no way I wasn't going to listen to it.

Plus, it's given a new generation an appreciation and love for Elton John and Bernie Taupin's music, which is amazing (even if I prefer Taron's version of literally every song). This soundtrack has been in my go-to playlist for four months and counting, and I don't see it leaving my go-to playlist ever. I like all of the songs, so I couldn't even give you my top three songs.

All I know is my favorite is "Your Song", so you should definitely listen to that one. Oh, and the credits song, "(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again" is sung by both Egerton and John, and it is a bop! It's the only song new to the film and the only song with John's vocals. Plus, the music video is fantastic (pun intended). And one more thing: the Target version of the soundtrack has two exclusive tracks, one of which is a Taron only version of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", and it is hauntingly beautiful.

What I'm Listening to: Fall 2017

Before Thanksgiving comes and it doesn't even feel remotely like fall anymore, I thought it'd be good to finally get this post up. This fall has been interesting in terms of the music I've had on repeat. Some of it consists of new music that I've recently added to my iTunes and Spotify while the rest of it is music I've had for a while now and went back to for whatever reason.

To easily listen to my complete fall 2017 playlist, use the embedded playlist at the bottom of the post. Otherwise, you can listen to each song/artist individually under each subhead.

Jeremy Jordan in Smash

Last month, my sister and I watched the old NBC show Smash in its entirety during our Jeremy Jordan marathon. I was an instant fan of the songs his character Jimmy sang, especially his solos. While they are songs that are supposed to be in a Broadway musical, they have a different sound and feel to them that I enjoy. They do feel like normal songs you would hear on an artist's album. They all tell a story but it doesn't necessarily feel like they're part of an entire soundtrack telling a big story.

What I'm Listening to: Summer 2017

For the first month and a half or so of summer, I listened to a lot of the same music I've been listening to for months ― some of it even since December and January. But this month I finally started consistently listening to some new music that it'll probably be playing for the rest of the summer. As usual, you can check out all of the music in the playlist at the very bottom of this post, but since I really like some of these songs' music videos, I decided to include those as well.

Why - Sabrina Carpenter

When Sabrina's sophomore album came out earlier this year, I listened to it on repeat for months. Then she announced she would be releasing a new single ― off the album ― right near the start of her summer tour. I was definitely excited for it as I was really enjoying her new music.

I actually got to listen to it a few hours before it was supposed to be released because the lyric video was released earlier on one site. I don't remember my initial reaction to it, but I liked the message immediately.  It doesn't really matter if you like different things. You can be different and still have a good relationship with someone.

Plus the music video has Casey Cott from Riverdale, which is probably my new favorite show, so that's cool. This is one of the music videos I really like even though I feel like Sabrina looks a little too young to be with Casey in the video. I love the photography aspect of it, though!

What I'm Listening to: Fall 2016

This fall has been a pretty exciting time for music ― at least for me. Over 50 new songs have been added to my Spotify in the past two months, which is a lot for me. So this is the biggest music blog yet, complete with a playlist at the end!

The 1975

Although I hadn't listened to many of their songs before this school year, when my sister and I found out The 1975 was going to have a concert on the University of Illinois campus on October 28, we immediately wanted to go and bought tickets ASAP. And once we bought tickets, I instantly started listening to a bunch of their songs to get ready for the concert, even though it was nearly two months away at the time.

What I'm Listening to: Summer 2016

Summer is a great time for music, especially since there are so many concerts and music festivals. Some pretty great music has been released this summer, and I've been listening to that for the past three or so months. But now I'm back at school and summer's over, so I wanted to share the songs and artists I listened to all summer.

Check out my summer 2016 playlist at the end of this post.

What I'm Listening to: November 2015

After listening to the same 10 or so songs for about two months, I finally downloaded new music and added it to my iTunes! So here are the songs and artists that have been on repeat this month.

What I'm Listening to: September 2015

I've always loved listening to music, but once I started college, listening to music is something that occurs less often than before. And when I do,it's the same several songs over and over again. Now that September's nearly over, I thought I'd share what I've been listening to this month.

Kolby Koloff

Kolby Koloff is not a popular name in the music industry, but she's one of my favorite musical artists. She's definitely my favorite Christian artist. Christian pop, let alone Christian music is something I don't listen to often or very long even though I've gone to church on a regular basis for my entire life, but I really enjoy her music.

I first heard of Kolby on the Lifetime TV show Preacher's Daughters. After watching her on that show for a few years, she was someone I could look up to and inspired me to grow in my faith. So when she announced she was making music, I was excited even though I'd never listened to that genre of music before.

She released an EP prior to this one, entitled Be Free, but it was originally just released on her family's website and wasn't promoted and released at the same scale. I instantly loved all of the songs on Be Free, so I've been looking forward to her upcoming EP and pre-ordered it so I could hear all the songs ASAP on October 2. Two of the songs, Grow and Enough, have already been released, and they've been on repeat for weeks. I appreciate all of the messages in Kolby's songs, and of course, her voice is so pleasing to listen to. To preview all of the songs on Grow, visit iTunes.
