If you know me, you know my favorite actor is Taron Egerton. He plays Elton John in the fantasy musical biopic
Rocketman, which was released last week, so he's been in the news and all over the internet lately. But you may know him as Eggsy from the
Kingsman movies, which is where I discovered him, decked out in tuxes and Adidas.
My style icon posts normally feature female actresses and athletes whose wardrobes and outfits I covet and would love to wear, so I've never featured any guys before. But in honor of
Rocketman's release and because he's my favorite actor who dresses well and has been named one of
GQ's Best Dressed Men for a few years, I'm sharing some of my favorite outfits Egerton has worn. (Shoutout to
Gareth Scourfield, who often styles him for events!
If you've seen
Rocketman, this jacket should look familiar to you since Egerton wears it in the movie during "Tiny Dancer". He's mentioned in several interviews that he would like to keep this jacket, and he finally got it! I was curious as to how he'd wear this jacket when/if he got it, and I really like what he's done with it here at the New York premiere of
Rocketman. It's definitely a different look than how he wore it in the movie. The plain white T-shirt and black pants keep the attention on the fun jacket, and the red Dr. Martens add another pop of color and fun. It's modern yet retro all at once.
Also, those clear frames are super cool. As someone who has worn glasses for most of her life, I love seeing and finding fun frames. They're like a translucent pale blue, which looks great on him. Plus, I became a fan of Egerton after
Kingsman: The Secret Service, and he wears glasses a lot in that franchise. So I just love when he wears glasses.
Egerton's always had good outfits for premieres, press events, and all that, but he's really kicked it up for
Rocketman, which makes sense since he's gained some confidence in what he can wear and pull of after wearing recreations of Sir Elton John's iconic and super extra outfits and costumes. I'm not sure I've ever seen a brown suit before, but I quite like this set. It's actually quite similar to what he wore to the
Rocketman photocall at Cannes just a few weeks before this, which I'll talk about later since it's also in this blog post.
Anyway, the brown and blue pattern is interesting and almost leaf-like, which really adds to the earthy feel of the outfit. The different shades of brown from his shoes, pants, and jacket create depth and a slight contrast without it feeling like he's wearing too many different colors.
I always enjoy seeing what Egerton wears to press events, talk shows, and things like that, because he usually wears awesome sneakers and/or an awesome jacket. He had both for this press day at BBC Radio 2. I love the color scheme of this outfit with the warm, mauve-ish jacket and the plum pants. The crisp and clean white sneaker and white tee keep it simple but also add a nice contrast. And cool shades are always a nice touch, even if they aren't as extravagant as Elton John's!
I don't think I've ever seen a velvet suit or tuxedo jacket until I saw Egerton wear one for Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and now I've seen several people wear velvet jackets. There are actually a few feature in this blog post, so that orange velvet jacket from Kingsman had him hooked! This gray velvet jacket he wore to the Rocketman gala/premiere at Cannes is simply beautiful. The color and fabric give it a luxurious look that gives it depth and the illusion of shine. It definitely makes him stand out, and the velvet alone is a simple way of elevating any clothing item or outfit.
I just love this outfit. It's absolutely perfect for the occasion, which was the
Rocketman photocall at Cannes. The paisley printed suit is unique and sophisticated, and the brown and blue colors complement each other well. (The blue actually matched
Elton John's outfit really well, so I loved that!) Paired with the blue T-shirt and the navy shoes, it just feels very appropriate for a big event in the south of France at the end of May. The T-shirt and shoes add some more color, and the decision to wear a simple shirt underneath the jacket instead of a button-up works well for the weather in addition to adding a bit of a casual vibe. And two thumbs up for the colored sunglasses.
This blue velvet/velour bomber jacket is simply fantastic. It's sophisticated, suave, cool, and casual. Bomber jackets alone give off a cool vibe, but the color and fabric elevate it, and the blue matches the gradient lenses of his sunglasses perfectly. The crisp white high-top Vans complete that vibe while keeping it comfortable.
I told you there'd be more velvet jackets, and here they are. At this year's British Academy of Film and Television Awards (aka the BAFTAs), Egerton rocked velvet tuxedo jackets. Pictured above is a beautiful dark burgundy/maroon/plum velvet jacket, which he wore to the pre-BAFTA dinner. The color is deep, rich, and lovely. The darker color is perfect for a fancy nighttime event like the pre-BAFTA dinner and adds just a hint of color. It's amazing how simply changing the color and fabric of a jacket can revamp men's formalwear.
And here's the velvet tuxedo he wore to the actual BAFTAs award ceremony. I've seen a few different pictures and angles of this jacket, and it's either a deep green color or something like a dark teal that has a bit more blue in it. Either way, it looks great. I love how the texture of the jacket matches his loafers, which look magnificent and lavish. He could totally be dressed as Eggsy heading to dinner at the Swedish royal palace. I'm honestly convinced Egerton wears these velvet jackets better than anyone else. I mean, he did pull of a bright orange one, after all!
This picture doesn't do this outfit justice, because the jacket's design is easier better in black and white, so I've included two pictures for this one. Anyway, the jacket has an awesome leaf/plant design that's quite chic. The jacket itself is a matte material, but the print is like a satin and has some sheen to it that creates a beautiful, subtle contrast .
Along with the the sunglasses and black loafers, Egerton stuck to the black tie dress while adding some flair, which is appropriate since this was at the 2018 Argento Ball for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, and Elton John doesn't shy away from flair. I feel majority of clothes don't look better in black and white, but this does and really shows off the intricate detail.
