My 19 Favorite Outfits from 2019

Happy New Year! I've been slacking on blog posts in the past few months, but I've found some time to do my annual yearly favorites posts. First up are my favorite outfits of 2019!

Picking my favorite outfits every year is never easy, but I feel like it was a little easier this year because for some reason, when I was going through all of my outfit pictures and my Instagram, it didn't feel like I had a lot to go through. Also, since I stopped doing so many outfit blog posts, I found doing this post more fun since a good portion of these outfits haven't been shared on here before.

I think this year may include the fewest amount of summer outfits and the most winter outfits since I started doing favorite outfits of the year posts, which is interesting since I usually like my summer outfits more. I guess that's what happens when you finally have jackets you really like and the weather isn't so terrible!

My favorite thing about this outfit it just seems so perfect for early spring. The pink coat pops really well but also goes with the floral top and brings out the pinks there. My hot pink flats add another pop of color without feeling like it's too much or it doesn't fit. I also love how it feels girly and sophisticated, especially with the high ruffled neckline of the shirt and the little bow. Then the pink and florals just adds to that, of course.

This was an outfit I just came up with on a whim. It was one of those days where I wasn't sure of what to wear, so I just took a look in my closet and put something together. I ended up liking this outfit a lot more than I ever thought. The moto jacket plays off the floral design of the pants well to create a contrast in styles. The lace trim pink top adds some color and brings out some of the pink on the pants, too.

Outfit Overload: What I Wore This Summer

While summer is my favorite season and I am a fan of warm weather, I'm glad it's officially fall. And now it's officially a new season, I'm sharing my favorite outfits I wore this summer in my newly-renamed OOTD series called "Outfit Overload". It just makes more sense to me since I never post any of these OOTD blog posts the day I'm wearing them. Anyway, while it's not exactly sweater weather yet, I'm eager to start to transition these clothes and styles for fall.

The start of May was unseasonably cold. I definitely wasn't expecting to be wearing a jacket and pants but did enjoy the opportunity to wear these pants before it got too hot since I had recently bought them at the time.

I went to the Lyric Opera of Chicago on this day to see its production of West Side Story for the first official time (I saw the final dress rehearsal), so I wanted to dress up a bit. It was still cool, so a jumpsuit was a better choice than a dress. I'd never had the opportunity to wear this bright pink blazer before, so I was glad it matched perfectly with this jumpsuit from Express.

I've been loving the bike shorts trend and have wanted to try the crop top/bike shorts combo but had to wait for the right day, weather, and occasion. It's a very casual outfit, so wearing it to the movies seemed like a good fit. I love the color of this set but wish the material was at least a teeny bit thicker.

Fashion Friday: OOTD: Time to Transition

When the seasons start to change, it can be tough to figure out how to dress appropriately for the transitioning weather. Sometimes it's too warm for one jacket but not cold enough for another and you need to find a nice in-between jacket. Sometimes it's quite cold in the morning and too warm for a jacket by the afternoon. Or sometimes the weather just goes out of whack and you're back in the middle of last season but already put all of last season's clothes away.

So for this outfit of the day feature ― I realize calling these posts OOTD isn't exactly right as these are never posted the day I wear them but it's too late for me to try to change it now ― I wanted to share some recent outfits I've worn that I think are good for transitioning from winter to spring, whether it's the right amount of layers or just the right colors and patterns for the time.

If you've been on my blog this year, there's a good chance you've seen this jacket before. It's a great jacket for transitioning from winter to spring, so I wore it in quite a few outfits on this post. The bright pink color is great for spring but isn't insanely bright. It just pops and adds some nice, fresh color. It's also not too thick and not too thin, making it great for transitioning.

I threw it on over a lightweight hot pink sweater. This allowed me to have some layers but of differing thicknesses so I wouldn't be too hot or cold. Pairing it with some plaid pants added some texture without drawing too much attention away from the pink.

Fashion Friday: My Favorite Outfits of 2018

It's 2019, so it's time to say goodbye to another year of great outfits. When I was going through my photos to pick which outfits I wanted to include, I had about 20 or so outfits, and it was hard to narrow them down. So I ended up choosing 15. I tried several new things with clothes and outfits this year and am pretty happy with how I did and how my style is evolving. I can't wait to put more outfits together this year and try new styles.

What I love about this outfit is how simple it was but how cool it made me feel. It's a simple athleisure/athletic inspired outfit with the Adidas quilted bomber, white long sleeve, mesh cutout leggings, and slip-on sneakers, but put together it feels so trendy yet fresh. Plus, the sunglasses elevate the whole look.

This was the outfit I wore to my very first job interview, and I absolutely adore it to this day. This was in a previous OOTD post, so it may be familiar. This outfit is definitely business ready but isn't so boring or typical, which is what I want all my business-y outfits to be like. The pink blazer adds a fun pop of color to the outfit and matches the stripes on the jumpsuit perfectly. The white tassel earrings add some flair, and the pointed nude heels keep it elegant and professional. I don't like wearing outfits more than once, but I would totally wear this exact outfit again.

Fashion Friday: OOTD: New November

Nearly half a year has passed since I last did an OOTD compilation post. Wow! So there are a few reasons for that. One: I don't go out as much, and since I don't go out as much, I don't have as many outfits to photograph. Two: I'm trying not to do too many of the same post, and I've done a lot of OOTD compilation posts. Three: I've been busy with my other blogs (The Twin Trio and The Adventures of Amanda and Ashley) as well as my freelance writing and my job. So I haven't been able to dedicate as much time to this blog.

Luckily, this past month was great for me in terms of outfits and clothes because I got to wear quite a few new clothes and put together some new outfits with clothes I already had. Therefore, this November OOTD post is titled "New November." Also, I went out more this month than I usually do. I got to do some exciting things, like go to Broadway in Chicago shows (which you can read about here and here), and I finally have jackets I like a lot that I consider part of my outfit rather than covering my outfit.

I started the month off on a very bright and bold note with this bright pink faux fur collared denim jacket. When I first got the jacket, I wasn't too sure what I'd wear with it, but I've had this bright pink sweater for years and could never quite figure out the best way to wear it. But I think I've found the perfect match with this outfit! It's vibrant and pops without blinding anyone. Plus, the faux fur keeps my neck warm, which is great.

I wore this outfit to watch Hello, Dolly! for the first time while it was in Chicago. My sister and I went downtown for the day because of it, and we got to meet up with one of our Twitter friends who now goes to Loyola. (If you're reading this, then hi, Lizzie!) It was great to finally see her, and the show was awesome as well.

Fashion Friday: OOTD: Spring Into April

It's been a while since I last did an outfit compilation post because I hadn't been going out consistently enough to have outfits to take photos of, but now that the weather's nicer, I think they'll be more frequent again!

Garage cropped sweater | Hollister skinny jeans | Keds from Nordstrom Rack | Kate Spade purse

Even though this was from the beginning of April, it was a bit chilly for this time of year, so I opted for a light sweater. It wasn't like winter cold, but not quite the nice spring temperatures you'd expect from early April. I paired the sweater with some light wash distressed denim because it felt more spring-like, and if it didn't feel like spring outside, at least I could bring some spring vibes to my outfit?

Fashion Friday: My Favorite Outfits of 2017

Today's the last Friday of 2017, so I'm celebrating by sharing my favorite outfits I've worn this year for the final Fashion Friday post of the year!

January 3

I rarely choose outfits from winter as one of my favorites from the year because I don't like winter fashion as much as summer, spring, or fall. I just haven't figured out how to dress really cute in the winter while staying warm and wearing a big puffy jacket and/or I lose motivation to put together outfits when they're just going to be covered by a jacket.

I honestly don't remember anything about this day, but I'm guessing it wasn't that cold since that green jacket I'm holding is one of my lighter jackets. I love that floral bomber, and the jeans and ankle boots combo is classic. The black velvet choker also adds a nice touch of edginess to contrast with the floral pattern of the jacket and the baby pink shirt.

Fashion Friday: OOTD: Falling Into Winter

In the Midwest, November's typically the time of year where it starts feeling like winter even though the season doesn't officially start until nearly the end of December. This past November felt pretty mild for the most part but had some glimpses of early winter weather, as I demonstrated in my outfits from last month.

I really wanted to wear this bright pink vest while it wasn't really cold out, so I wore it almost the first chance I got. It goes really well with my Hunter boots (there's a bright pink stripe on the back of them) as well as my blanket scarf. It adds a nice pop of color while providing some warmth.

Fashion Friday: OOTD: Sayonara, September

September is usually thought to be the unofficial start to fall. Time to break out the sweaters, boots, and scarves and to consume pumpkin spice everything. However, that was not the case this year as can be witnessed in my outfits from September.

I was a little disappointed by the mild month because I was ready to at least wear pants. So I did my best to bring in some fall hues into my outfits that were more appropriate for the more summer-like weather.

Fashion Friday: OOTD: Already Past August

August is a month that always seems to fly by, especially as it's considered the last month of summer, the last few weeks before everyone heads back to school. Even though I'm not going to school anymore, it flew by just as quickly as it would as if I were still in school.

August brought some good adventures to end my summer, including a big birthday party, a few hours showing my best friend around my hometown, and another trip to New York!

I wore two outfits this day because my mom and I went out in the morning/early afternoon before going to a family friend's big birthday party at Maggiano's. I got the "Stand up for love" shirt from Zara near the start of the summer but never got around to wearing it until about a month and a half later. I really like the font and the saying (love is the best!), and the pink and red work well together without making it look like Valentine's Day. I accidentally dried this shirt when I washed it, so I hope I didn't shrink it.

It was surprisingly quite difficult for me to find a top to go with these blue shorts. They're really cute, but they just don't go with a lot of my clothes. (This is what happens when my mom says I should buy things.) I like the normal blue color but wish they were navy instead just so they'd go with more of my clothes. Perhaps as I get older, they'll work with my wardrobe more since they are more "mature" shorts.

This is definitely one of my favorite outfits from this summer. The color scheme is quite simple and can work for multiple seasons. I put together this outfit rather easily since the pink shorts matched well with the off-the-shoulder top yet it looks super cute. You don't always have to put so much effort into an outfit to look cute!

My mom dragged me to her friend's birthday party this day, so I figured I should dress up a little. I wish I had a gold choker to go with this dress because the outfit's pretty plain, but at least my dangly pink earrings make up for it.

This was actually my first time wearing those earrings even though I've had them since high school. I could never find the right outfit to wear them with. It turns out light chambray goes great with neon pink, light pink, and gold! It adds a nice pop of color and shine.

I had to get an MRI this day, so I did my best to wear comfy clothes that had no metal whatsoever. I did a good job because I was able to just wear this while getting the MRI and didn't have to wear a gown!

My sister got me this USA Gymnastics shirt from the Under Armour store in SoHo. Since USA Gymnastics was having its big meet that weekend, I decided to wear it. Plus, it's a comfy shirt with no metal, making it perfect to wear the day of an MRI.

I haven't worn this skirt that much, so I wanted to pull it out of my closet at least once this summer. It's super soft, and even though it's a bodycon skirt, it didn't feel tight or confining at all. I love that my tank top and crossbody bag pair really well with the coral and pink colors from my skirt to pull it all together.

This was my first day in New York this August. Yes, I wore a dress to the airport and on the plane. It was actually really comfy, so if you have comfy casual dresses, consider wearing them next time you fly (weather permitting, of course!). I added the flannel around my waist to add some flair to the outfit. It also provided another layer if I got cold on the plane.

Plus, I went to see a Broadway show that night, so I wanted to wear a cute outfit without changing from what I wore on the plane.

Here's another top I got from the start of summer but never got around to wearing until August. Honestly, I think I just forgot about it. At first, I thought the thin halter straps plus the off-the-shoulder style would look weird, but it's actually pretty cute! Plus, it keeps the top from sliding down your shoulders or back.

I adore the light colors and florals of the top. It just seems very summery and refreshing, which is perfect for a warm summer day. Also, I went to SoHo this day, so I'm glad I decided to wear this cute and trendy outfit on our shopping day.

This was my last day in New York as we were flying back to Illinois that night. Once again, I wore a dress to the airport and on a flight. It was comfy and saved space in my suitcase since I didn't have to pack multiple tops and bottoms. 

I got tired of wearing sandals, so I switched to my Converse for this final day even though I knew they'd be a bit difficult to take off at the airport. But my feet just needed a break from flat sandals after the miles of walking we did. (It doesn't help that I have pretty flat feet.) Luckily, I had TSA Pre-check and didn't have to remove my shoes!

I just really wanted to wear my new Broadway Dance Center shirt my sister got me, and I didn't think we were going to do much that day. I still wanted to be trendy with my outfit (and wear pink), though, so I paired the graphic tee with high-waisted pink shorts and floral slides.

Fashion Friday: OOTD: Mid-Summer Mix

I actually went out last month more than I thought I would, which was a pleasant surprise since I've always spent most of my summers at home everyday. July is definitely one of the hotter months of summer, and I had a mix of occasions to go out for last month, so I got to play around with my outfits and express different vibes depending on what I was doing that day. Here's my mid-summer mix of outfits from July:

The first of the month was a pretty jam-packed day. I had to get up and leave the house earlier than normal because my mom's plans began pretty early. After she was done with the class she had to take for work, we got to relax for the rest of the day and shop till we dropped. 

It was pretty hot and very sunny this day, and I knew we'd be shopping, walking around a lot, so I wanted to be comfy. I love the tank I wore because florals and stripes are a great combo, and I adore the embroidered flowers on it. I tied the tank at the front because that's how it was at the store when I saw it and thought it was super cute. Plus, it looks better that way. I also love those sandals because they're super comfy and cushiony, making them perfect even for days full of walking.

I didn't really know what my family's plans were for this day other than my mom needing to go to the dentist. I didn't think we'd do too much ― which I was right about ― so I kept it pretty simple and casual.

I really like the choker cutout tee but wasn't sure what the best bottoms to wear it with were. I tried on a few and thought the shorts in the light wash went best. But then I didn't know if the shirt would look better tied at the front like the striped tank I wore on July 1. I guess I figured it looked better normal. I didn't really know what shoes I wanted to wear, so I just went with those sandals because they're comfy and don't not match. Also I didn't know what purse I wanted to use. I wasn't sure what color with go best with the shirt, since that's the focal point of the outfit. 

Overall, I'm not crazy about this outfit and probably won't wear this combo again. In fact, I don't think I can because I washed that shirt and it shrunk even though I didn't put it in the dryer. Weird. I'm not too upset about it, though, because it was only $8. And after wearing it once and struggling to find out what to wear and pair it with, I'm not too upset about it.

I went to finally move out of my apartment at school on this day, so I just kept it plain and simple again. I knew I'd be moving a lot that day in terms of physical activity, so I'd be sweating and needed to move easily. So I opted for this comfy pink tank and stretchy black shorts. The shorts are made out of a good amount of spandex so they stretch and aren't confining like other ones can be. My hat says "THE FUTURE IS PINK," which I wanted to wear because I hadn't worn it yet since getting it.

I did not expect to leave my house this day but for some reason my mom wanted me to come with her to Chicago for her doctor's appointments. So I did. I knew if I was coming with, we'd for sure go shopping downtown, and it wasn't me seeing the doctor, so I opted for this choker cutout dress. It was warm but not hot that day in the city, so wearing sleeves wasn't a problem. When I usually go downtown in the summer, I don't normally wear sandals because of the walking (even though I've now walked farther/more in sandals in the city). Plus, I thought my white Converse went really well with this dress. Overall, I really love this outfit because it's trendy and a little bit urban.

I definitely didn't like wearing this jumpsuit all day. I went out starting around 10 or 11 AM this day because I had an eye doctor appointment, but since my family was going out for dinner at a Brazilian steakhouse later that night, my mom just wanted me to wear whatever I was going to wear for dinner all day.

It's not that this jumpsuit was a struggle to take off when trying on clothes or going to the bathroom later in the day when we went to the mall. It's that we went to an outdoor mall on a hot, sunny day, and I was wearing a black jumpsuit. I was sweating much more than I would've liked considering my outfit. Since it's a jumpsuit and not a romper, my legs were really hot. But it's fine. I survived.

Thankfully, I don't think the jumpsuit is too dressy but not too casual, so it worked for during the night and at dinner. The only thing I would've liked to change for the day to night transition is my shoes, but I didn't have nicer shoes to go with this other than heels. If I had some, I would've liked to wear some heeled sandals or like summer booties with the cutouts.

I decided to wear this dress because we were going to church that day, and when we go to church on Sundays, I like to dress up, especially in the summertime. I didn't know we'd be going anywhere after, but we did. Luckily, this dress wasn't too fancy or anything, and I wore comfy sandals. 

When I go to church on Sundays (sometimes we go on Saturday evenings), we don't usually go anywhere after except maybe a restaurant to eat, so I don't like to bring big purses because I don't need to bring much. Although I do make sure to bring my card and money just in case we do. Thankfully, I can usually fit everything I need in a smaller purse. I just like bigger purses because I can fit a water bottle in them.

Fashion Friday: OOTD: Summer Sights

For some, summer has just begun, which is weird for me to think since it's been summer for me for a month now. My summer so far has been a balance of exciting and relaxing, especially with my trip to New York. So not only has my summer been full of sightseeing but I'm also looking forward to more downtime and whatever fun this summer has in store.

Because I've had a lot of time to relax and do basically whatever I want, there aren't too many outfits in this post, but I am very much enjoying the warm summer weather. After all, I love wearing shorts, dresses, and skirts! Plus, I'm glad I got to wear some new outfits and pieces, especially while out and about in New York!

Fashion Friday: OOTD: Last Days in College

The last month or so of my college career was interesting, not only because of all of the "lasts" I was experiencing, but because the weather was weird. Sometimes it felt like spring and even early summer, but then other days it felt like late winter and I wanted my jacket back.

Fashion Friday: My Favorite Outfits of 2016

It's no secret I love clothes, fashion, and taking photos of my outfit. A good chunk of my blog posts are OOTD compilations. But of all 365+ outfits I wore in 2016, I've narrowed the choices down and featured my favorites below.

Though burgundy is a fall color, I wear it all year round. What I like about this outfit is that it's different from what I usually wear. It's on the preppier side with the collared shirt underneath the sweater. This has definitely made me want to try this look more and with other shirts.

Fashion Friday: OOTD: Until Next Time, November

It's hard to believe that a month ago I could go outside with just a sweater and not be cold. If I went out today with just a sweater I would be freezing. The month started with temperatures nice enough for me to comfortably wear dresses and skirts without tights, and then it ended with me wondering where all my big, comfy sweaters went.

We'll see if how many outfits I'll end up putting in the next few OOTD blog posts because I'm finding that as it gets colder, I get lazier and just throw a sweater and leggings on and/or don't feel like taking a picture of my outfit as much. Plus, I like my warmer weather outfits more, which gives me more motivation to take OOTD photos.

Fashion Friday: OOTD: October's Over

October: the month I thought it would finally feel like fall and not summer. I was wrong. It did feel like fall often, but there were also several occasions where it was too warm for fall clothes. However, most of the time, I wanted to incorporate some aspect of fall fashion in my outfits, so I tried to do that with colors and textures when it was warmer than normal.

This was one of the few workout days I got to have this month. My favorite part of this outfit would have to be the leggings because they have pockets! I love pockets.

Fashion Friday: OOTD: September Seasons

It's been nearly a month since my last post, so I apologize for my lack of activity on this blog. Though it's my last year of school, it's still rather busy. But I've kept up with taking outfit of the day photos so I can post when I find the time!

September was a pretty mild month in central Illinois, so I was able to wear my summer clothes relatively far into the month. It was pretty warm throughout, so I added fall textures and colors to my outfits since the fall weather wasn't present often.  But as the month neared its end, it finally felt like fall arrived!

Fashion Friday: OOTD: Back-to-School in August

Even though I'm a month into the semester already, I feel like it's still the start of the year. Yet I also feel like I've been in school for three months already this school year.

Regardless of how far into the school year I am, the weather is still rather summer-like. It's especially summer-like during the first week or so of school, which is reflected in this week's Fashion Friday: an outfit of the day compilation from the end of August.
