Some of the items I bought can be found online, so click the link in the photo caption to shop online.
Abercrombie & Fitch
Over break, I went to the outlet mall three times, so I saw this dress in the clearance section three times. The first few times I saw it, I didn't want it badly enough to buy it for the price it was listed at. Then, the final time I went there, it was less than $6, so I just had to get it. I couldn't pass up a deal that good! After all, Abercrombie & Fitch is not cheap, so that was a big steal.
A'GACI
Lila Crochet Blouse |
I walked into A'GACI looking for a new pink blouse to wear at one of the gymnastics meets I'm going to cover this season. Every year, there's a pink meet to raise breast cancer awareness, so I always wear a nice pink top to that meet. Even though I have plenty of pink tops to wear, I wanted a new one.
Bloomingdale's
Sorel Joan of Arctic Knit II Boots |
Several years ago, I got my first pair of Uggs to wear when it's cold and/or snowy. This year, I found out that that first pair is no longer waterproof, so I needed new boots to replace them. I decided to get Sorel boots because they keep my feet warm and dry and provide more traction than Uggs. (I have totally fallen on my butt in my Uggs walking on ice.)
While these aren't as versatile as my tall chestnut Uggs in terms of outfits, I really like the bright coral color and chevron print at the top of the shoe. They're heavier shoes than what I'm used to, but not overbearingly so.
Forever 21
Active Floral Print Leggings |
I've talked about these pants before in my December OOTD post, so I won't say much. These are supposed to be athletic leggings, but they could honestly be used for just going out, too. Athleisure wear has been a trend, and these pants definitely fit that. They're stylish with the floral print but sporty with the striped band at the top. These are really comfy and are thicker than most normal and athletic leggings.
Winter is pretty much the only time I wear hats, but I haven't found too many I liked and/or looked good on me. I like slouchy beanies, but for some reason, I can't find a lot of those that I like. So when I found this one at Forever 21 and tried it on, it was perfect. I don't have a hat in a lighter pink or more neutral shade, so this was a good addition.
I'm slowly starting to incorporate more jewelry into my wardrobe now that I appreciate and realize what jewelry can add to an outfit. I've noticed that layered necklaces are trending, and I like the look of them. I also don't have a lot of necklaces, so I wanted to try this look out. The set of layered necklaces I got actually isn't available online, but Forever 21's website has plenty of similar ones.
Oftentimes when I go into a Forever 21 now, I always think of my Where to Shop on a College Girl's Budget: Part 1 post and remind myself to look at the sale and clearance racks. That's where I found this pink and subtly sparkly sweater. It's from Forever 21's contemporary section/line, so it's more sophisticated and classic.
I like that this sweater is warm like a knit sweater but fits more like a crewneck sweatshirt. I bought a size large even though I'm normally a small/medium so it fits more loosely and is longer. I have no complaints about this sweater, especially since it was 50% off!
Most of my long-sleeved shirts are sheer and thin because they're blouses and not cotton/polyester shirts, so when it's cold out, I need plain cotton/polyester long sleeves to wear underneath to stay warm. This one is great for sheer long sleeve/three-quarter crop tops. I didn't see this exact one online, but Forever 21 has a lot of similar basic shirts like this.
Hobby Lobby
I once tweeted that there's a slim chance of me leaving Hobby Lobby with the same amount of money I came in with. That's because I love arts and crafts and decorating, which Hobby Lobby is perfect for. Plus they always have sales and lots of stuff on clearance, like this nail polish rack. I'm not actually sure if that's its intended use, but I saw it on the clearance shelf and instantly thought that it'd be perfect to hold all of my nail polish.
As aforementioned, this was on clearance, and there was an additional sale on clearance, so this was only $3 or $4! It's a little dented and scratched up in places, which is why it was in the clearance section, but overall, it's in good shape. Besides, it was less than $5, so I can't complain.
Marshalls
I've been wearing combat boots for about four years now, and I'm surprised that I haven't gotten another pair until now because I wear them so often. Now I finally have a pair of brown ones, thanks to my mom's suggestion and Marshalls's super cheap prices. These brown combat boots were only $15, and unlike some things at Marshalls, they feel and look like they're worth only $15. I don't expect them to last as long as the Madden Girl ones I've been wearing since I was in high school, but it's nice to have another pair (and in a different color).
This top feels like suede, so it's nice a soft, which is something I don't currently have in my closet. It will definitely add some texture to an outfit. I love scalloped hems/edges, and I don't have a shirt like this yet. So this top just adds a bit of variety to my closet.
Who doesn't love a big, comfy sweater? Most of my cardigans are black or have black, but I don't have too many brown/tan ones, and I need more of those. This sweater will go well with a lot of my clothes that I haven't been able to wear in the winter yet, so it'll be nice to have now that it actually feels like winter.
I actually almost missed out on this cute purchase! I found it while waiting for a register in line with my mom and pretty much threw it into the cart at the last second. All of the prints are really cute, and I've been looking to add more decorations to my apartment. Each print has gold foil, which I love, and it's a small clipboard display that was less than $7! (Scroll down to the Target section to see it hanging in my room.)
Nordstrom Rack
This love...ady dress was on the clearance rack, and it was less than $20! I really like the floral print and the colors. It's a longer and slimmer, so it's more of a professional dress, which is good since I'm getting to the point where I need to have clothes that are appropriate for interviews and stuff. This dress is great year-round as it could easily be paired with tights and a blazer if necessary.
PacSun
Nollie Ribbed Scoop Neck Crop Top |
The same goes for this black long sleeve as the one I got from Forever. The main reason I got this, though, was because there was a sale at PacSun for buy one get two free on anything with a blue dot on the tag, and I really wanted the skirt below. (The other free thing was for my sister.)
LA Hearts Ponte Button Front Skirt |
I remember seeing this skirt in the store a few times and really liking it. I've seen skirts like this all over Instagram and other places on the internet. This skirt is a nice, durable, and smooth fabric, and I like the buttons in the front. It's a nice little touch to an otherwise plain skirt. It may be 2016, and the colors of the year may be rose quartz and serenity, but skirts like this marsala one are still quite popular.
It would go great with the shirt I bought with it or a black crewneck sweater. I think this is actually a pretty versatile skirt and could be dressed up or down very easily. This could still pair well with tights, boots, and a comfy scarf for a cute winter look.
Rue 21
When I found out Rue 21 was going to have a collegiate collection, I was pretty excited. Even though I have more than enough Illini gear, trends are always coming and going, and I just really love buying cute clothes that show how much I love being an Illini.
There have been a few waves of Rue 21's collegiate collection so far. This top is from the first one, so it's not even online anymore. I remember seeing it when they first released the collection. I liked and wanted it but not enough to actually buy it full price. Luckily, I found this top in the clearance rack at the outlet for only $5!
Target
I love their dollar section. My tweet about it being unlikely for me to leave Hobby Lobby with the same amount of money I came in with is also true for Target.
Target unloaded their Valentine's Day decor pretty much the second Christmas ended. This is one of the box signs they have in their dollar section, and I love the combination of media. The wood with the metallic material looks awesome and contrasts really well. The paint looks great on the wood, too. I know this is supposed to be a seasonal sign, but I think it can work all year round if it matches the rest of the room.
I love how Target always has cute and cheap seasonal banners all the time. It makes it very easy for my sister and I to decorate our apartment for whatever time of year it is. All I have to do is take down the last banner and hang the new one.
There were quite a few Valentine's Day banners to choose from, but many of them had pink and/or glitter on them, and my sister hates pink and glitter (which I love), so choosing one of those to hang in our living room wasn't an option. I think this was the only one without pink, but I still like it. I love the kraft paper and lace combo. There's a nice, strong contrast there. Normally, the off-center doily hearts would bother me, but I like it. It's simple, yet festive.
I'm pretty sure this art hanging frame is intended for children to hang their drawings on, since that's what was on the label and it was with the kids coloring stuff, but I don't care. I like pink, and I'm going to have Instax photos I want to display somewhere, and this was perfect. Hooray for dollar section finds!
My sister and I often find ourselves wondering what we're going to eat for the day. We also need to remind ourselves of what we need to buy. This is the perfect solution. It's going to help us plan our meals and be more organized. Plus, we pretty much love chalkboard anything!
While I didn't get to buy and hang a pink and glittery Valentine's Day banner in my living room apartment, I did get to for my own bedroom. Like the box sign, I know it's supposed to be for Valentine's Day, but it can work at other times as well!
TJ Maxx
I just thought these athletic leggings were really cool. I love the bright pink, the color-blocking, and the geometric pattern. Hopefully, they'll encourage me to workout more.
Victoria's Secret PINK
I remember first seeing this shirt at the beginning of the school year. I knew I wanted it. It's Illini. It's shiny and has sequins. It's an oversized and comfy varsity crew-type shirt. What's not to love? The original price.
It was originally $60-$70, but I only saw it online. I never saw it in stores, stopping me from buying it. Luckily for me, I caught the final days of the semi-annual sale, and this was in the sale section! And the best part is that it was only $20 when the sign said it would be around $30!
