Fashion Friday: Style Icon: Lucy Hale

With the new season of Pretty Little Liars starting this Monday, I can't help but be excited! Sure, some PLL fans lost interest after the "Big A reveal," but a good amount of fans are still pretty invested ― myself included ― because there are just so many questions that still haven't been answered!

So in honor of the new season beginning soon, I've decided to feature Lucy Hale, one of the stars of PLL, in this week's Fashion Friday as one of my style icons. Unlike her PLL character Aria Montgomery, Lucy's style isn't quite as eclectic. It's definitely more conventional, but with Lucy being so cute, tiny, and petite, I understand that shopping for clothes probably isn't the easiest thing in the world. But she does a really good job of putting together outfits that suit her figure well and make her look her age.

And while PLL is certainly what she's most known for, I actually became a fan of hers in 2003 when FOX sort of had a kids version of American Idol called American Juniors. So I always felt pretty cool knowing who Lucy was all these years before she became really famous!

Pictured below are some of my favorite outfits she's worn in the past year or so.

Lucy definitely knows that a high and more cinched waistline is flattering, which is one reason this outfit looks so good on her! The solid black shorts are a great complement to the striped off-the-shoulder top, which are really trendy right now. It looks like there may be some sort of peplum or fringe detail on the shorts in addition to a belt, which are nice touches.

It's a little hard to tell, but she's wearing a little black choker to accessorize her pretty simple outfit, which is also very "in" right now. Overall, it's a pretty simple outfit that's trendy and great for summer but has a little detail here and there that kick it up a notch.

Black is always a classic, stylish, and very chic color, especially when in a monochromatic outfit like this one. It's one of the rare colors (I think) where a monochromatic look actually works and looks good just because it is so classic and chic. The hat is a great accessory and adds a hipster sort of vibe, and all of the delicate layered jewelry is a dainty and trendy way to accessorize more. Layering necklaces and midi rings are quite popular right now, and it's easy to see why with Lucy's ensemble.

What a cute outfit! Crop tops and high-waisted shorts go really well together, especially when you're tiny like Lucy. The little cutouts and criss-cross pattern in the cutouts of her top are a fun yet subtle detail, and her shorts are just really fun with the colors, metallic look, and pattern.

I'm loving those round sunglasses on her! They go with the shape of her face well, and her half-up bun hairstyle is super cute too; I think it goes along perfectly with how cute and petite she is.

This is casual meets edgy with a hint of girly at its best. Ripped boyfriend jeans just give off a different laid back vibe that normal jeans don't and definitely add some edge. The leather jacket certainly adds an edgy vibe as well. This outfit is basically what that loose-fitting white t-shirt was made for. It has that casual look to it because it's just a plain white tee, but then its fit just adds something special.

Meanwhile, that lace bralette is just so pretty! I mean, that is what bralettes like those are made for, to add some feminine flair, and she perfects it right here. And who can go wrong with a classic pair of Converse?

This is just another adorable outfit. The collar and the skirt are so cute, and I love the color combo. It's like that top and that skirt were made for each other! (They very well could be for all I know!) And I think Lucy made a wise decision with the pointed toe heel as opposed to a round toe, because it kind of ties the whole thing together, especially considering the pointy collar on her shirt.

I remember seeing this outfit on TV, and I've always loved that dress! It's girly meets edgy, which I think is a great representation of Lucy's personal style. The deep v mesh-like cutout juxtaposed with the blue and black lace-like pattern creates a gorgeous contrast. I don't know if the effect of the dress would be the same in terms of style vibes if it were in a different color scheme, so I really enjoy what the blue and black do for the dress.

Simple and cute! Those are the only words I need to describe this outfit. This one's almost like a combination of nearly everything I've said in this post already. Black? Classic. Crop tops and high-waist? Good. Plus, black crocheted lace definitely gives off a bit of an edgier vibe than white or off-white. This would be a great summer outfit for a warm, but not too hot, day.

What do you like about Lucy's style, and which of these outfits is your favorite? Also, do you have a favorite Aria Montgomery outfit? I've definitely enjoyed seeing how Arias's wardrobe has changed as she's matured and her character has entered the "real world." It's a nice change, but I can definitely still see the uniqueness that was present before.
