Before we get too deep into the new year, I wanted to share my last monthly favorites post of 2018. December was a great month as I got to spend a lot of time with my family, and I also just love Christmas and the holidays. Last month, I tried new recipes and food, watched new movies, and bought new things that I adore.
As usual, any of the stuff I've featured and found online will be linked in the subhead.
Disney "Being a princess is exhausting" pajamas
I found this super cute pajama set at the Disney Store at the outlet mall on a clearance rack for only $18 and instantly loved them. I've always been a fan of Disney princesses, but my love for Disney ― especially the princesses ― has grown within the past year. At first, I was upset because the only size left was extra small, and I haven't worn an extra small anything since middle school probably. However, when I took it off the rack and got a better look at it, I realized it was a big extra small and would totally fit me.
I love the light pink color as it goes great with the gray princess print and text and the gold accents. I love the sketches of the princesses everywhere and like how they all have different expressions. I do wish they included more of the princesses, but that's alright. These pajamas are super comfy and I even like to wear the pajama top when I'm not sleeping.
Forever 21 Velvet Belted Palazzo Jumpsuit
Unfortunately, this color isn't available anymore, so if you want to get this jumpsuit in the mauve color I have, you're out of luck. However, this jumpsuit is still available in dark grey, a beautiful golden marigold, and a fun yellow citron. I featured this jumpsuit as part of one of my favorite outfits in My Favorite Outfits of 2018 post, so I won't say too much about this. I just love the velvet and jumpsuits.
Gagged Chokers "Swedish Nightingale" choker from The Greatest Show-woman Collection
One of the movies I watched for the first time last month was The Greatest Showman. I had heard a lot of good things about the movie in the past year but just never got around to watching it and/or never felt the urgency to watch it. I'd heard a few of the songs before and liked those but still didn't feel the need to watch it right away. Even so, when I heard Gagged Chokers was coming out with a Greatest Showman-inspired collection, I was excited because I'm still into chokers even though the trend is sort of fading out, and Courtney Reed (the owner and creator of Gagged, who is also Broadway's original Princess Jasmine from Aladdin!) has great style and makes such fun and awesome chokers.
The only choker I really ever wore before this one was a black velvet one from Urban Outfitters because it goes with a lot of things and adds a nice bit of edge to outfits. So when I looked at Gagged's Greatest Show-woman collection, I really liked this white one because it's pretty much the opposite of the black choker I have. It's white, light, and dainty and is just gorgeous!
Disney's The Aristocats Marie Big Feet Plush
I've liked cats for as long as I can remember (but I'm not a pet person. I just like stuffed animals and cute cartoons and stuff.), and The Aristocats has always been one of my favorite Disney movies. As someone who likes cats and the color pink, it's no surprise I love Marie. She's probably my first favorite Disney character. I actually got a plush winter/holiday Marie for Christmas when I was younger, but to be quite honest, it didn't look that much like Marie and just looked like a white cat. The only reason I knew it was supposed to be Marie was because the tag said so.
Even though I'm 23 now, I still love stuffed animals but have since separated with my winter/holiday Marie for probably like a decade now. However, whenever I would go into the Disney Store these past few months and saw this Marie plush, I thought it was so cute with her big bow on the back, little bow on her head, and big feet. Plus, it's so soft and hug-gable. The plush was on sale, so my sister was kind enough to buy it for me. Now I love having it because it reminds me of my childhood and just makes me happy.
Funfetti macarons
My sister and I have spent the past several months trying a lot of new recipes, making a lot of pastries for the first time, including macarons. We watch a lot of baking shows on Food Network and know macarons are tricky, but we wanted to try them anyway. The first few recipes and attempts ranged from alright to straight-up ugly, but this funfetti recipe is the best so far and is our favorite. (We used this vanilla buttercream recipe for the filling.)
We love funfetti as sprinkles just make everything more colorful and fun, and it's a simple flavor that can be used for any occasion or no occasion at all! So far, we've made these macarons three times, and they've been a hit every time. The shells are firm and smooth on the outside but chewy on the inside just like a good macaron should be. They taste great, and the recipe can easily be modified for whatever flavor you desire.
Small Cheval
I've actually had a burger and fries from Small Cheval/Au Cheval before, but I didn't realize how good they are until I had them a second time. The bread is delicious, and the burger itself is juicy and doesn't drip everywhere like a lot of burgers do. I don't really know what else to say about the burger because I don't really know what else made it so good. I just knew the bread was really good, I wasn't making a mess everywhere eating it, and it was one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. And the fries! They're amazing. They taste just like McDonald's ― but better!
