What I Got for Christmas 2020

I don't know about you, but I personally like and enjoy seeing what gifts people get on their birthdays, at parties/showers, and on Christmas. So I'm going to share what I got for this past Christmas in case you're one of those people who also enjoys that sort of thing. Also, it's a fun little way for me to reflect on what I got, share what I like about the gifts, and is another way to say thank you. Some people may see it as bragging, but I see it as "Hey, I like what you got me so much I want to show/tell everyone!" But maybe that's just me.

If you'd like to buy any of these for yourself or someone else, I linked the product title/subheading for what I could find. (I did not purposely search for what people bought me online/the prices ― a lot of these gifts came with little promo cards from the company they're from so I could see what other products they sell and/or I was already familiar with the brand. Plus, I have no idea if people used promo codes or coupons or what. I just like to link things, because I often go searching for things I see online from people I follow on social media and whatnot.)

So thank you to my family, friends, and co-workers who generously gave me a present for Christmas. Happy holidays, everyone, and I hope 2021 is better than 2020 for us all!

Book Babe Library Keychain Bangle - My Secret Copy

My twin sister bought me all book-themed gifts this year, because I love books, and I also work at a library. This bangle keychain is super cute. I've been seeing bangle keychains and little bangle pouches/bags a lot online these days, and this one is perfect for me. In case you're new here or somehow don't know, my favorite color is pink. Also, I love glitter. So I love the light pink color of the bangle and the tassel, and the plastic heart keychain with glitter that says "book babe" is my favorite part. This is perfect for my work keys and so much more me than the standard library lanyard I used before.

Louisa May Alcott Quote Sweatshirt - Storiarts

This is also from my sister, and the first thing I need to say is that the inside of this sweatshirt is SO SOFT. It's the softest sweatshirt I've ever felt before, so I am most definitely excited to wear it. Anyway, I love the quote, because I am definitely fond of books. As a design person, I of course have to comment on the font, which I think seems very fitting for the quote and the person who said it. The sweatshirt isn't pink, but that's okay, because I still like the color.

My Favorite Memories from 2019

2019 was a great year, definitely better than I ever would have expected or imagined. Some of my all-time favorite memories from my life so far happened last year. My best day ever happened in 2019, so it's honestly going to be hard to top 2019.

In 2019, I got to meet so many wonderful people. I got to see some amazing shows. I fell in love with the magic of live theater. I got a job that finally makes me feel needed, useful, and appreciated. I got to spend quality time with family for the first time in forever. I got to do new things and have new experiences and so much more. But here are my favorites from 2019:

Being a West Side Story Insider for Lyric Opera of Chicago

I wrote an entire blog post on my experience as a WSS Insider, so I won't go into too much detail about this, but it was truly a wonderful, amazing day and experience. In case you haven't read my blog post about this, I was chosen to attend the final dress rehearsal of Lyric Opera of Chicago's West Side Story and had the opportunity to live tweet the show and go on a backstage tour of the iconic Lyric Opera house at the start of May.

West Side Story has been one of my favorite movie musicals since I first watched it in high school, but I hadn't gotten the opportunity to watch a stage production until last year. Even though my first stage production of WSS was a dress rehearsal in which no one had to do the show full out, there was no evidence the cast wasn't performing at 100% (I saw the show a total of four times, so I'd know by now if someone was underperforming), and it was the best musical production I'd ever seen. Everything about the show was amazing, and what was even better was the opportunity to tweet all about it and then stand on such a big stage and see what it's like for the performers. Also, considering I've now been on Twitter for just about 10 years, being chosen to tweet a musical I love felt so cool, especially because there are very very very few opportunities to tweet in a theater!

What I Got For Christmas 2018

Happy new year, and happy holidays! Christmas Day may be over, but it's still the holiday season, so my Christmas spirit isn't gone yet (though I'm not sure it ever fully goes away). It's been a week since Christmas, and my favorite part of the holiday is most definitely giving presents. I actually love giving gifts no matter the time of year as I've been known to buy gifts for my family and friends especially for no reason. I even buy gifts for my favorite gymnasts and performers. So I definitely love Christmas because it's all about giving.

But of course, I also enjoy the receiving. It's nice to see what your loved ones think you would like, and I've been blessed and am so thankful to receive all that I did this past Christmas. I don't know what I did to deserve it, so I just want to thank everyone who gave me a gift and show them how much I appreciate it, which is why I'm sharing what I got for Christmas in this post.

(If you want to shop any of these items online, just click the name of the item. Yes, I realize this means I've seen the price of these, but that's not why I linked them. I just want people to be able to buy/find the items if they want. Besides, I'd already seen some of these things before, and it doesn't mean I know how much someone paid for them. After all, the holiday season means lots of sales and promo codes.)

My Oh My Supply THE SNUGGLY DUCKLING x DREAMERS DESTINATIONS Unisex Crewneck - Pink

My sister, Ashley, themed almost all of my Christmas presents around Disney Princesses, and they were all products I knew about but hadn't bought for myself. The first one was this comfy crewneck.
I first saw discovered this sweatshirt (and maybe the company itself) when I saw Stephanie Styles, one of my favorite Broadway actresses ― and one of my favorite people ever  ― wear this in an Instagram post. The Snuggly Duckling is the name of a place in the Disney movie Tangled, which is definitely one of my favorite Disney Princess movies. Rapunzel is my favorite Disney princess, and pink is my favorite color, so I just loved this. Now I can match my fave!

The Disney Natives "I want to be where the people aren't" tee

I remember Ashley sent this shirt to me on Instagram once, and I instantly enjoyed it and thought it was funny. In case you don't know or haven't figured it out, the saying on the shirt is a play on a line from "Part of Your World" in The Little Mermaid. Ariel sings "I want to be where the people are," but this, as the site says, is the perfect shirt for the introverted Disney fan, because introverts need time away from people. I am definitely an introvert, so I thoroughly enjoy this and am so glad the text is pink! I showed this to my brother, and he actually wanted to know if there was a men's version, because he, too, is an introvert.

Cakeworthy 90's Princess Denim Jacket

Everyone could use a good denim jacket, and this is a great one. My sister and I have discovered a lot of Disney-related clothing brands lately, and Cakeworthy is a great one. You may have even seen some of their merchandise in a Disney Store.

Now that the '90s are back and trendy, I've been seeing not only a lot of denim jackets, but embroidered denim and patches and pins on denim. This jacket combines that with all of the Disney princesses that existed in the '90s. This is such a fun denim jacket that will make me feel just as cool and royal as the princesses on the back.

The Backstage Blonde x TodayTix "Strong Female Lead" T-shirt

Here's the one non-Disney-related Christmas gift I got from Ashley. It's actually related to one our newest interests, Broadway. So this shirt is from a collaboration with a Broadway dresser and blogger, Teale Dvornik (aka The Backstage Blonde) and TodayTix, a site that helps theater fans find last-minute tickets to Broadway shows and other theatre events all over the world. Teale originally sold "strong female lead" shirts on her own site store but collaborated with TodayTix for a special collection.

While "strong female lead" often refers to a powerful leading lady in a movie, TV show, play, musical, or any other performance art piece, it can also just refer to any strong woman. This shirt is to inspire women and girls to be the "strong female lead" in their own lives, which I love. And of course, I adore that this shirt is pink, because the original ones Teale sells on her website aren't, and you know I love pink.

Patagonia 'Better Sweater' Jacket

One thing I can always count on getting for Christmas is pajamas. My mom always buys me at least one set of pajamas. Whatever else she buys me is usually a mystery unless I specifically ask for something and she says, "This is your Christmas present, then." This year was a mystery year ― sort of ― but more on that later.

Since I hadn't asked my mom for anything specific for Christmas, I didn't know what she was going to get me. So I was definitely surprised by this Patagonia jacket. I'd never expressed interest in having one, but I definitely wouldn't have minded owning one. My mom bought my dad one for Christmas last year, but he never used it, so he gave it to Ashley. I guess my mom wanted me to have a Patagonia, too, and now I do!

I honestly don't see myself wearing this too often, because this is definitely a more outdoorsy jacket that you'd wear when you're hiking or something, but it'll be nice to have a light but thick jacket to keep me warm when I don't want to wear something big or puffy. I finally have a casual winter jacket to alternate with my North Face!

Juniors' So Chenile Marled Cable Chenille Hoodie from Kohl's

These next three items are from my best friend Carly, and what I love most about them is that she put together an outfit for me when I'm usually the one putting an outfit together for her, so I am very touched! The first part of her gift was this super comfy-looking hooded chenille sweater. Chenille is totally in right now, and I actually don't have a chenille sweater yet, so this is perfect. I also don't own a hooded sweater, but it seems like a great idea, so I'm excited to wear this.

Gold Foil Print Floaty Shorts from Pretty Little Thing

The next part of my gift from Carly are these shorts. How fun are these?! I love the gold. I love the leopard print. I love the flare fit. It's so glam but not in your face. Paired with the chenille sweater, these would be cute and dressed down a bit.

Marina de Buchi Personalised Script Name Gold Bracelet

And here's the last thing Carly got me for Christmas. I don't actually think I've ever owned a piece of jewelry with my name on it before, so I'm pretty excited about this bracelet. I don't really wear bracelets in the winter because my arms are almost always covered, so no one can even see what's on my wrist, but I can't wait to wear this.

Henri Bendel Jetsetter Backpack

My mom has been kind of obsessed with Henri Bendel for the past year or so maybe, so it was only time that she'd get me a Henri Bendel bag. Back to the my Christmas present from her sort of being a surprise: this one was so not a surprise. She straight up asked me which Henri Bendel Jetsetter backpack I wanted, which was nice because then I knew I'd like it, but it also took away some of the fun in getting presents and being surprised.

Anyway, now every girl in my family and all of my mom's sisters have Henri Bendel Jetsetter backpacks. My mom bought one for everyone. None of us have the same one, though. What's great about this backpack is that it can be a backpack or a messenger bag, which I love. Who doesn't like versatility? Now I'll take good care of this bag because Henri Bendel is going out of business soon and this will be my first and last bag from them.

Pink Longchamp Le Pliage backpack

My mom's sisters are pretty big on designer bags, so it makes sense that my aunt got me a pink Longchamp backpack. She actually bought me a classic purple Longchamp purse a few years ago, so I'm glad I got a pink bag this time (because you know I love pink and it's nice to have a different color since the styles are very similar). This isn't as big of a bag as my Henri Bendel backpack, but it's still a good size that could fit everything I need in it, including a water bottle. This color is great for spring, and I don't have a backpack in this shade of pink yet, so I'll definitely be using this in a few months.

ColourPop Disney Designer Jasmine Creme Lux Lipstick

If you guessed that my sister got this for me, then you're right! This limited edition ColourPop Disney Designer lipstick was the final part of my Christmas present from Ashley, and it's the only thing I knew she got me. I don't remember when we found out about the Disney Designer collection, but when we did and the hot pink Jasmine lipstick was out of stock, we were both bummed.

As you definitely know by now, pink is my favorite, and Jasmine is one of my favorite Disney princesses (definitely my favorite Broadway Disney princess ― I love Courtney Reed!) So when she found out ColourPop restocked the Jasmine lipsticks, she told me she bought two for me. I also bought one for myself before Christmas, because they had free shipping, and I know they won't be around forever. I've already used the one I got myself and love the shade of pink. Definitely princess worthy!

Happy new year! What did you get for Christmas and/or how did you spend your holidays?

My November Favorites

November was a pretty eventful month as I saw new musical productions, tried new restaurants, heard new music, and read new books. I even put together a lot of new outfits with some new clothes, which was evident in my November OOTD post titled "New November". So I had some favorites from all over the place last month.

Blush pink Gap bomber jacket from TJ Maxx

If you saw my October Shopping Roundup or November OOTD post, this jacket should be familiar. I won't say too much about this since it's already been in two of my blog posts, but this has easily become one of my favorite coats. Also, I always feel the need to mention how it reminds me of Regina George's jacket.

What I Got for Christmas 2017

I love Christmas, and presents are definitely a big part of why. However, I actually like giving gifts more than receiving them ― but I enjoy getting them, nonetheless!

This Christmas was much smaller for my family than last year's as no one came to our house to celebrate the holiday. Majority of the family members we usually spend Christmas with are in or going to the Philippines for the holidays, so it was just an immediate family occasion for me this year.

With the smaller celebration means less presents, and I'm honestly okay with that. I'm at that age where I don't really want things for Christmas anyway. (Seriously, though. What I actually wanted for Christmas was no student loan debt and a job.) So I didn't expect to get much this year but was pleasantly surprised with what I did get!

Tweexy wearable nail polish holder

tweexy in Pink Frosting
My brother got me this nail polish holder, and although I haven't used it yet, I love it. I enjoy doing my nails and am pretty clumsy, so this is a perfect gift for me.

Christmas Treats Galore

One of my favorite things about Christmas is the food. It's a big celebration, and every big celebration should have delicious food. While there's the iconic Christmas dinner with ham, my favorite food aspect would have to be the Christmas desserts. I mean, it's not Christmas without cookies for Santa, right?

I don't consider myself to be much of a cook, but I do love making desserts and baking. Whenever we have a big family get-together or anything, I always make some sort of dessert, usually cupcakes. This Christmas, my sister and I were rather ambitious and made four different desserts all on Christmas Eve!

Cutout sugar cookies and Rice Krispie treats

Every Christmas celebration should have cookies! My favorite cookies are chocolate chip, but sugar cookies always seem more appropriate to me for Christmas. The recipe I used is a great cutout sugar cookie recipe. The shapes of the cookies didn't warp one bit.

The Rice Krispie treats aren't anything special in terms of a recipe. It's the same recipe that's on the cereal box of the Jet Puffed marshmallows bag. These specific ones consist of two layers of Rice Krispie treat with a layer of holiday mini M&M's in the middle. When my sister and I were spreading out the first batch into the pan, it seemed too thin, so we added M&M's on top. Then we decided it would be kind of cool to put another batch of Rice Krispie treat on top like a layered cake. After that layered cooled and hardened a bit, I drizzled melted white chocolate on top and sprinkled it with some more mini M&M's just to make it more festive and decorative.

What I Got for Christmas 2015

Christmas is my favorite holiday, and while it's not because I get presents, it certainly is a nice aspect of the holiday. I really enjoyed Christmas this year, mostly because of how much I laughed, but also because I got some pretty neat gifts, especially the ones featured below. (This isn't to say that I don't like all of my gifts, because I truly do. These are simply my favorites, or more accurately, most of the presents I got that weren't money.)

From my sister

Illini Spirit Jersey

Because I apparently don't have enough Illini spirit jerseys. Kidding! I love spirit jerseys, so I don't mind getting more. I've seen other schools with ombre/tie-dye ones like these, and when I saw that Illinois had one, I instantly wanted it. Luckily, I didn't buy it before coming home for winter break since my sister got it for me!

2015 Holiday Wish List

It's finally the holiday season, and that means it's time to start thinking of what I want for Christmas. Usually, I have no specific thing in mind and just ask for money or gift cards so I can buy whatever clothes I want, which can make me difficult to shop for. This year is different. I actually do want specific things -- not that I don't want money or gift cards. For this list, I tried to include a variety of items and prices, which I would recommend doing if you make your own wish list to accommodate everyone.

This can also serve as a gift guide if you think someone in your life has similar taste to me. To shop for the item online, click the item title or the photo.

Ivory Ella

Ivory Ella is a brand I featured on a past Fashion Friday, and even though I only own one shirt from there, I love it! They released a few new things for the holidays, and I look to add a few of those to my wardrobe. Besides, who doesn't want to help save the elephants?

Embroidered Electric Coral Hoodie
Ivory Ella recently released embroidered clothes, and I wanted them the instant I saw a picture. Comfy hoodies are a must for the winter, and I love the colors on this. The embroidered Ivory Ella logo on the front is super cute and is a nice little touch to the otherwise plain hoodie.

My Favorite Moments of 2014

A new year brings new memories, but there are always old memories I'll never forget, and 2014 was definitely more eventful than I could have ever hoped for. Here are some of my favorite (personal) moments of 2014.

Any time I Skyped Phoebe
Phoebe is my best friend despite the fact that we live over 2,000 miles away from each other. She's been one of my very best friends since we became friends in 2006. Since she's in California now and no longer a five-minute walk away, I value anytime we share together.
She and I mostly Skype over breaks from school with my twin sister, Ashley. Even though we haven't seen each other in over a year, when we Skype, it's like she never moved away, and that means the world to me. I've never had such a close friend for so long, so I really appreciate that we can still see
each other and talk, even if it's not in person.

When I met Shawn Johnson
February 4 was pretty much the best day ever. That was the day I met Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson. I'm a huge gymnastics fan, so when I found out that I was going to have the opportunity to meet Shawn, I was ecstatic.
Johnson was on the University of Illinois campus to commentate for a Big Ten gymnastics meet and was also a lecturer as part of the Illini Union Board's lecture series. Shawn spoke about the experiences written in her book, A Winning Balance. After the little speech Shawn gave, there was a book signing for fans to get books signed and to get a picture with her.

My sister and I getting our picture taken with Shawn. (The IUB staff said pictures had to be taken in groups of five, so three random guys we don't know had to be in our picture.) | Photo courtesy of the IUB Facebook
